Rambo Family
Lawrence Rambo emigrated from France to the United States in the late 1800s. He left France with little more than his education and what he carried on his back to the United States. Lawrence Rambo entered the US through Virginia, he then worked his way westward to New Orleans. Lawrence Rambo eventually moved northward, working in a coal mine in Illinois, taking on different jobs along his way to Michigan where his journey would end. Lawrence Rambo settled in the South Western Michigan, an area that he was attracted to because of its diverse ecosystem.
This diversity looked very promising to this young man. It was rich in wooded forest near the shorelines of Lake Michigan, with a soil type that was favorable for plant growth. From here, Lawrence Rambo became one of the first to serve Michigan as a state plant inspector. As his knowledge of this business grew, he started growing nursery stock, not knowing that much later this would become Rambo Inc. Lawrence Rambo passed away in 1937, seeding the beginning of what he started.
One of Lawrence Rambo’s sons, Joseph, took particular interest in the nursery business. Through the early part of the 1900s, the Rambo family business would see many transformations taking place. The early 1900s was a good time for nurseries as the market was booming. Joseph Rambo took advantage of this high growth market and was a steady supplier to the industry. During this high growth period he literally sold plants by the railcar load. Over then next hundred years, the family farm would keep evolving. Different markets were explored, and soon commercial fruit growing would stem from the nursery business.
Then 1999 would see the passing of Joseph Rambo. He would leave what he grew for nearly a century to the families of the business, all of whom are actively involved. The Rambo Company spawned from the need to expand the business in the 1970’s and has evolved into one of the country’s largest fruit plant providers in the United States. Over the last several decades Rambo Inc. had developed a large selection of selected perennial rootstock for the wholesale industry. Today, Rambo Inc., is still evolving in this competitive market, exploring new products, and setting the stages to server you well into the 21 century.
